An Andover, Minnesota, woman has been arrested on allegations of drunk driving and child endangerment after a car crash. She has been charged with a felony for each offense. The woman's eight-year-old son was in the car, according to police. Fortunately neither was hurt, even though the car supposedly caught fire as the woman allegedly tried to get her car out of a ditch.
Witnesses claim the woman was driving her car erratically. She lost control of the car and drove into a ditch. Witnesses then say the woman attempted to back the car out of the ditch several times. However, somehow the engine caught on fire with the woman and her son still inside. Witnesses rushed to help, and the boy managed to climb out of the backseat. The witnesses then pulled the woman from the car before she was hurt. Police officers arrived shortly after the accident, and the woman supposedly admitted to drinking. She was on her way to pick up another child.
The woman is facing serious felony charges that could result in significant jail time and the loss of her driving privileges. Moreover, sometimes criminal charges can have severe consequences in other arenas of the law as well. For example,, this woman probably needs to be at least somewhat concerned about ensuring she does not lose custody of her children.
Even though the woman has supposedly admitted to drinking, she should not speak any further with the police until she has spoken with an attorney to protect her rights. A committed attorney can ensure that an accused person is treated fairly throughout the criminal process.
